TAEHYUN KIM was born in Seoul, Korea. She started to play the piano at first and changed to the violin at the age of nine.

She studied violin and chamber music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Michael Frischensnchlager and Stefan Kamilarov, at the Konservatorium Wien with Altenberg Trio, at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover with Hatto Beyerle and Ulf Schneider, at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg with Niklas Schmidt and at the Oslo Music Academy with Are Sandbakken, Isaac Shuldman and Vebjørn Anvik.

Her musical development has been influenced by Valentin Erben, Joseph Kalichstein, Boris Kuschnir, Walter Levin, György Pauk, Eszter Perenyi, Menahem Pressler, Stephan Picard, Mstislav Rostropowitsch, Arnold Steinhardt, Jerusalem Trio and Kronos Quartet.

During her studies, she formed a piano trio with her sisters in Vienna and made a successful career as a chamber musician as well.

Taehyun Kim was a former prizewinner of many competitions; Austrian Young Music Competition Prima la Musica, International Chamber Music Competition in Trondheim, Trapani and Verona, European Chamber Music Competition Karlsruhe, and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Competition Berlin.

She has appeared in many European countries, Australia, Brazil, Korea and has been heard on many radio stations including KBS, NDR, NRK, RBB Berlin and ABC.


Since 2008, she is a member of Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
